First, vocabulary.  We did our usual rigamarole and then you got some new words:

  • sciss – cut – scissors, as in a device used for cutting
  • sec, sect – cut – as in dissect, to cut apart
  • sens, sent – feel, to be aware – as in sentient, capable of feeling or being aware
  • serv – serve, protect – as in servant, a person who’s job is to serve

For the rest of today we’ll discuss some of the narrative background to Antigone, and maybe even get started on reading it.

In terms of background, that includes the Oedipus Rex story:
