3-4 Feb 2014 – AMC Test, Writing Day, and FINALLY finish discussing F451

Um, I think the title of this entry says it all. We’ll finally talk about the Afterword, Coda, and the Articles I gave you. In terms of your journal entry for this, remember that I want you to construct an argument for how the related readings connect to/relate to the text of the novel OR how they enhance your understanding of the message of the novel.

  1. When reading the Washington Post article, the idea of the brain having to adapt to reading really resonated as it paralleled Fahrenheit 451 quite nicely. As easily as a society can adapt to reading, a society can adapt to a new, synthesized type of reading. The article changed my perspective as I always thought of citizens in F451 as choosing to synthesize information versus being completely adapted and therefore having little choice in thinking in this sense.
