Today we’ll start with a short quiz over the reading, just checking in on whether or not you read the letter. Then we’ll talk about MLK’s Letter from a Birminham Jail–basically addressing the same things I asked you to address in your journal prompt:
- What are the key questions he’s answering?
- What is his tone and how does it shift over the course of the letter?
- Where is he using the different types of appeals (logos, ethos, pathos)?
Then we’ll talk bout how this letter ties to ANTIGONE–and whether it’s better to read ANTIGONE as Creon’s tragedy or as the story of a woman committing civil disobedience.
Tomorrow we start a new unit together.
