4/11 – Writing Day Task 5

Today is a writing day, as expected. My main concern for us today is getting a sense of how an explication balances between summary and analysis.

It’s like a braid or a twist with two strands. The first strand is a little bit of narrative for where you are in the poem, and bonus if you can slip in the snippets of quotes you plan to analyze. The second strand is analysis of that section of the poem, talking about what you notice and why it’s meaningful. Then go back to the first strand. Then the second strand. Then the first. Then the second.

Against my better judgement, I put together a template of explication sentence starters so that you could get a sense of how this works. I hope it’s a useful tool…
