…will see me for only a few minutes. I’ll ask you to assemble your Critical Reading Essays Packet (you will need it all year). I’ll also remind you about selecting your silent reading genre for the first half of the year. For homework tonight,
- Please read the first essay in the packet, “The Bad Habits of Good Readers.” Note in the margins where you identify with what she’s saying as well as where you disagree.
- Pop up to the library at some point today to change your password and check out a book in the genre you’ve chosen. If you’re stuck, talk to me. I’m happy to help.
And first hour
…let’s try yesterday again, shall we? First, please put finished letters & info sheets in the inbox, please.
Then we’ll talk about silent reading genres (briefly) and pop up to the library to change our passwords and select a book.
We’ll look at a picture from an old New Yorker cover as an example of a conceit. Then I will ask you to write a conceit comparing yourself to a Monopoly playing piece (one of the classics):
- scottie dog
- old shoe
- top hat
You may write it as a paragraph or a poem. Your conceits are due Friday (tomorrow).
Finally, we’ll assemble your Critical Reading Essays packet. You have the same homework as 1st hour: please read the first essay in the packet, “The Bad Habits of Good Readers.” Note in the margins where you identify with what she’s saying as well as where you disagree.
